Gerald A. Manint

 

 

 

Gerald A. Manint, 71, of Bement, passed away at 5:48 p.m., Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Gerald was born December 11, 1946 in New Orleans, LA. the son of Albert L. and Norma J. (Dubson) Manint. He married Ruth Ann Ross on June 15, 1968 in Monticello.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Manint of Bement; sons, Michael Edward (Heather) Manint of Downs, Marc Andrew (April) Manint of Urbana, and Ryan James (Patricia) Manint of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Mason, Matthew, Madison, David, Zoey, Gabriella, Patrick, and Ian; brothers, Albert L. (Sarah) Manint, Jr., Robert J. (Diana) Manint, and James E. (Cathy) Manint all of Monticello; sisters, Joanne S. (Jon) Adams of Bement, Linda J. (Don) Brandon of Paxton, and Joyce M. (Patrick) Quinlan of Ludlow. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gerald was an Electrical Design Engineer. Gerald served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from ’66-’68.  He was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church, the church choir, Saint Francis of Assissi Knights of Columbus in Monticello-Bement Council 15584, Bement VFW Post #5192 and Past Commander, Albert Parker American Legion Post #620 and served as Chaplain, Co-founder of the Bement Veterans Memorial, Save Our School Foundation, former First Responder for the Bement Fire Department, the Bement Police Auxiliary, and was coordinator of the 20th Engineer Brigade Vietnam Veterans Reunion Group.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at St. Philomena Catholic Church, Monticello. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 10, 2018 at St. Philomena Catholic Church with Fr. Bruce Lopez officiating. Interment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ivesdale. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello is handling the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the University of Illinois Foundation for Myasthenia Gravis or to the Manint family.
