LTG. RICHARD H. GROVES  

 

Richard H. Groves, 88, a retired three-star general who served in the Army 36 years, passed away December 26, 2011 at The Fairfax, a military retirement community outside Fort Belvoir.

Lt. Gen. Groves is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patricia Hook Groves; a sister, Gwen Groves Robinson of Northampton, Massachusetts; four children, Carolyn Groves Lewis of Alexandria, Virginia; Patricia Groves Campbell of Tucson, Arizona; Richard Wilson Groves of Hong Kong; and Ann Groves Odell of New Orleans, Louisiana; and nine grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at the Old Chapel at Fort Myer on March 22, 2012 at 11 a.m. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery and a reception at the Fort Myer Officer's Club will follow.

General Groves was the commander of the 159 Engineer Group as a Colonel in 1967.
